This is the first time in 12 years they have controlled the House.

So what does this mean for America? Where does our country stand with a Republican President and a Democrat majority in Congress? I think it means trouble.

Bush calls to find "common ground" among the obviously split ideas, while soon to be Speaker of the House, California Democrat Nancy Pelosi reassured that the democrats are "not out for revenge."

But how can two parties who have been so critical of one another in the past 6 years find a way to work together? Stop critizing the war on terror.

As so many American people have been quick to forget, America was brutally attacked 5 years ago. It was an unfair attack as our nation was hit from behind, with no chance of defending ourselves. 9/11 shows that this group of people are capable of anything, and with the Democrats in control, cutbacks in Iraq are likely to be made. The job may not get finished. America may not be safer.

And now that the Democrats are in control, the Republicans seem to be making a lastditch effort to assure America that their position on the Iraq war has changed. In a stunning move Wednesday, President Bush announced that Secreatary of Defense Donald Rumsfield would be stepping aside. It seems to me that this scene is all too similar to the Katrina debacle in which FEMA director Mike Brown resigned during the Katrina aftermath. It was time for someone to take the fall and become the sacrificial lamb for the GOP. Donald Rumsfield stepped aside to make a point to America that the position on Iraq was changing. It seemed a way for the GOP to save face.

But with America fighting to find a balance between two parties, the damage may already be done. The results of this election show that people are so disapointed with the way that the Republicans have done the job thus far, that the Democrats are an easy answer.

But there is no easy answer in the war on terror. The American people seem to just be looking for an easy way out. They think they are choosing the lesser of two evils, when really, they are just prolonging the job being completed correctly.

Without the Republicans in control of Congress, the job in Iraq will never be completed. The impatience of the people is shocking! The terrorist groups in Iraq have been terrorizing people for decades. This is not a job that can be done quickly, and when it appears that everything is going wrong, the people of the country are very quick to turn on their leader, and put a different party in control . What is this going to solve? Nothing. It is only going to continue to make the Iraq war even stickier. The fact of the matter is their is no easy solution, and putting the control of Congress in the Democrats hands is only a cop out.

Today

Today is the first day of my blog. I am a sophomore in college. I work at my neighborhood country club, where I run the beverage cart, which is mostly fun. I moved to Georgia a little more than a year ago, and still haven't quite found my place here yet, but I am working on it. I come from a very small town in Illinois, where I lived almost my entire life, so Georgia is a big change. I am majoring in Journalism and Fashion Merchandising, and my plan is to move to New York after I graduate, and work for a fashion magazine. My favorite thing in the whole entire world is to shop, and my favorite place to shop is Neiman Marcus.
